Hi wiki friends! We moved the GTA Wiki off Fandom last weekend, so that’s kicked off a new round of wiki admins finding my blog post and asking for advice on how to get their wikis off Fandom too. Since I started offering wiki-moving advice in 2024, somewhere around 100 people have hit us up in private, and I’ve realized we’re saying a lot of the same things over and over, most of which could easily just be somewhere public.

@dev I've used WordPress/blogger/etc in the past but I like SSGs because it's the first time where I feel like I can just make or customize whatever I want.

Of course, technically you don't need an SSG to do that, but changing the entire layout or styles by changing one or two files is unmatched.

I also made a comments system that works with both fediverse and regular form submission so you don't need to give up comments completely if you don't want to!

I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made with my Astro Book Tracker!

I wanted to create tool for myself so that in case Storygraph ever goes down, I have all my reading data in a format that's portable. Of course, it uses Netlify hosting, functions, and blob functionality so it's not really a "static" site.

But honestly I wasn't aiming for static this time, just something I could easily use as a reading tracker. I'll probably use this and Storygraph simultaneously for now to see how things go.
