@anime I have a very different impression of this episode for both YamaNishi and TaniSuzuki

Yamada isn't just asking to kiss, he's asking if she's okay having sex. The flashback included with Nishi's mom emphasizes how much she hasn't chosen things for herself until now. Obviously, that's a big decision, which is why Yamada's reaction is a green flag. He's not trying to pressure her, he just really wants to know her stance, which she ends up replying that she's not ready now, but still loves him. Overall it was a great scene that displays what communication and consent really means.

For Suzuki and Tani, I think it's easy for viewers to conclude that they should stay together, but I personally know someone who ended up picking their college based on their boyfriend who ended up cheating on them anyways lol. It's ill-advised to make life decisions as important as education and job prospects based on just a relationship that might breakup.

Tani was afraid to have that conversation with Suzuki and decided to pick a closer/safer college to preserve their relationship. But he wasn't making an informed decision after full discussion, he was doing it out of fear for their relationship. That's why Suzuki asks for distance and really questions whether he would have made this decision if she wasn't around. She wants him to pursue what he really wants to do, and is willing to support him even if that means distance for a while.
