I'm old enough to remember times when sites died from one day to the next, and stuff you loved simply disappeared (sometimes, because the author hit the workforce and needed a clean resumee).

So ironically right after writing this I read this. Which, while it’s Hollanov-centric, covers the exact same period of time and lifts and remixes a lot of the book’s scenes and dialogue. And I think the difference between the book and the fic is pretty much exactly the, like, Vibe I was trying to gesture at in the difference between mainstream published capital-R Romance Fiction and fanfic as a genre (inasmuch as it can be defined as such)?

3) The Desert Storm by Blue_Sunshine excellent storytelling, absolutely massive, (to the extent it reminds me of Saving Connor) still updating. This is a series of fics under a collection. Has a wide host of OC's and some excellent storytelling and development of Shmi's character. Later parts feature an incredibly scary Darth Plaegious. Started on #Usenet and a 33.6k modem last millennium, and joined Mastodon on a server that's a direct descendent of my best loved newsgroup. I've been reading #sff #ScienceFiction #Fantasy since I learnt to read. Fan of #Blakes7 #DoctorWho #Discworld #AndreNorton amongst others. Started writing with #Blakes7 #fanfic and then publishing zines, also last millennium. Went on to write #sf&f and #romance profic.
