Three episodes into my KanColle rewatch and I am enjoying it so far, though it hasn't switched into schoolgirl shenanigans mode yet either. Even so, I am more familiar with this particular subgenre now than I was when I first watched it, so I have a feeling even when it does change in tone, I'll still be fine with it.

Here's what's up next on my anime schedule:

First is Umamusume Pretty Derby season three, which should come as little surprise. I don't know who the focus will be on this time, but I'm willing to guess it's Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond based on their frequent appearances (and a certain scene which appeared to be foreshadowing) in season two.

And keeping with the theme of anime series based on games with characters who are high school girl personifications of things that are not originally human, I'm going to rewatch Kantai Collection. In this case, I have never played the original game, but I decided to check the anime out on a whim a while back. This time, it's historical naval ships reimagined as cute girls.

I remember being slightly disappointed in Kantai Collection the first time I watched it, as I was hoping for Strike Witches at sea, but instead I got mostly high school girl shenanigans with only a few naval battles. Still, I'll give it another chance and see how it fares this time.

After the brief discussion with @poppyhillz and @anime this morning about revisiting old favourites, I put on a couple of episodes of Barakamon - my all time favourite slice-of-life .

Lo and behold, I found a perfect entry for this week's ( @apc ), "Dumb Phones"!

Barakamon was my very first submission to the , back in August 2024. I think it's okay to use it again now. :)

After his flip phone breaks after a dunk in the sea, Handa is left without any way of contacting his friend and family in Tokyo. He takes a walk to the local store to use the phone, and is confronted by... an even dumber phone!

Much to the delight of the local children, Handa has no idea what he's doing.

I see, so the pretty man aka the major drama queen who's going to have a long-lasting grudge against a little girl and piss everyone off in the process has finally arrived. And to add to that, his seiyuu is Junichi Suwabe... Excellent!

Disappointed in the direction this is going.

The main character, should he still be alive, is just too weak and gullible with the blond woman. Or is he actually gone? That would be a bold story decision.

Maybe they made the strength difference too wide?

They had such a moment in the park, only for Yota to tell her she's in love with her best friend.

This sucks.

The scene was the perfect moment for a hug, a kiss. Yet, as some of you already mentioned in past episodes, Yota has zero romantic interest in Koyun.

@BongoMcnulty Hear what you're saying about the red light and his stepmom but earlier in the episode they were standing together on that balcony looking into the sky with an airplane overhead and in the visual language of that usually means they're a couple whose destined for true love. In pre-modern shows it's a flock of birds but regardless the symbolism is consistent. Just got around to watching the episode just now.

And here we are! Trying to look threatening with those wonderful deep blue eyes of yours and sad expression? Olruggio, dear, as if we'd ever believe that. Your soft heart is showing already and I'm here for that.

Also, Qifrey being so warm, soft-spoken, almost dreamlike throughout an entire episode to then go into THIS mode. Yeah, this was one of reasons I got attached to the manga (sorry, girls!). When I sense a seemingly lovely character whose eyes go dark the moment something triggering happens, I'm seated. And with Qifrey... I already know heartbreaks will follow...

Time to start watching my next pair of anime series.

First up is season two of Umamusume Pretty Derby. I think this one focuses on Tokai Teio, so I'm looking forward to that, already being a fan of hers from the game.

Next is a rewatch of Mitsuboshi Colors, which is one of my favorite slice-of-life CGDCT shows. It's not too far behind Strawberry Marshmallow, which is my favorite show in that genre. Oddly enough, the character designs of both shows are remarkably similar. I often wish there was a crossover, because I want to see what would happen if Sat-chan and Miu started conspiring together.

Up next in my anime schedule are a couple of short series.

First is my next step in Umamusume with the BNW's Oath OVA, which gives three different characters a chance in the spotlight. Of the three, I'm mostly familiar with Winning Ticket, who I've made a champion in the mobile game already. I'm sure to learn a little more about Biwa Hayahide and Narita Taishin over these three episodes.

Next is another rewatch of the original Oh My Goddess OVA. This is a series going way back to my early days of watching anime, and was definitely an influence on the kinds of shows I would come to enjoy over the years. It also foretold my affinity for engineer characters, with Skuld being my favorite of the three sisters.

Finished up the first season of Umamusume Pretty Derby. Coming from months of playing the mobile game, it was very easy to get into. I have a new appreciation for Special Week, who I still don't have as a trainee in the game yet. I have plenty more to go in the Umaverse, so I'm ready for the next installment!

Also finished my rewatch of Leviathan -the last defense-. It's light on character development, has a simple story, and doesn't really bring anything new to the table, yet I still enjoy it for what it is: a light fantasy that's just fun to watch. And of course color-coded dragon girls, which oddly enough reminds me of how the girls in Magic Knight Rayearth are color-coded, too.

Good stuff happening! ❤️

Slow, enjoyable, and so far drama-free. The main character feels the immediate warmth of having friends, expanding her circle.

The train scene was very funny, and Yota squinting when he's not wearing contact lenses is gold.

I have to admit that the first two episodes of Witch Hat Atelier turned out really charming. I had some mixed feelings after trailers, but I'm glad I was wrong. It's totally in line with the manga vibe, especially those pop-up book inserts. It did feel magical. I'm always prepared for the worst, but in this case the production isn't disappointing.

If Qifrey hadn't charmed me already in manga (damn it, why do I always choose THIS type of characters?!), he'd definitely do it in this anime version. Now waiting for Olruggio and Beldaruit (though it might be a while with this one...) to make their appearance.

Finished Darwin Jihen... It really is saying a lot about society. As far as foreign perspectives on USA issues go, it was a fun thing to experience as a group watch with my gringuitos, who will now probably force me to watch all of the Planet of the Apes movies in one sitting, to keep the monkey train going.

I don't think Darwin Jihen's terribly clumsy in the way it boards the (heavy and complicated) themes it touches, but it definitely feels like someone peeping, thoughtfully, into a jar, rather than being soaked in those issues. I'm sure some US folks watching the show will feel different than a non-US watcher like me did when they see an open carry heckler being mocked, or a former military guy that definitely did war crimes in a brown country now act as an earnest vegan terrorist.

It has some gruesome depictions of traumatic events and violence, so be mindful. Opening song is staying in my playlist for sure. I'm rooting for Lucy and Charlie 😃

I don't wanna read the manga because I have too much book back log but it IS getting licensed here and there's no way it's getting a second season, even with the massive cliffhanger it ended with. Sighhh maybe I will.

I'm not into numerical rating of things, but Ikoku Nikki would get top score for me in any chosen system. Absolutely wonderful anime that we're very lucky to have this year. Feels like we weren't told everything, but there's always the manga source and that's exactly what I'm going to check next

Also I was a bit surprised to see that many people didn't know about the movie Makio recommended to Emiri (aka Fried Green Tomatoes), or rather about Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe novel by Fannie Flagg. I know you can't project your knowledge onto others, but this one seemed so well-known to me. It was one of my favourite books in my late teens... so I have a particularly nostalgic moment with this little detail.

Episodes 4-6: I'm not tired to express my love for this anime. It's wonderful. And it keeps being wonderful. It gives space and is filled with air to breathe and to think. Masterful characterization. Adults are adults, teenagers are teenagers. We see various facets of characters, various ways to cope, various ways to live this life. Makio is an amazing character, very well-written. And the way she's trying to build relationships is truly something (side note: Junichi Suwabe as the seiyuu choice for Kasamachi goes straight into my heart, love his voice to bits...)

Episodes 2-3: It keeps getting better. Every single piece is in place and works so well to tell the story. Asa's mental visuals, unspoken details, truthfullness of interactions. But what's most impressive is the delicacy with which all the feelings and emotions are handled. I'm officially in love with this anime.

(It's a bit surprising to me personally because I'm not the biggest fan of Tomoko Yamashita's mangas. I haven't read this one, but I've read a couple of others, and most of the time it was storytelling that bugged me. But here everything is perfect so far. So I guess those just weren't my type of stories. This one is though)

The first episode of Ikoku Nikki (Journal with Witch, 国日記) (2026) was beautiful. One of the few anime I was genuinely waiting for, and it turned out better than I could possibly hope for. Non-linear storytelling, wonderful character design and, more importantly, topics covered: solitude, grief, mourning, road to healing. All the little details, its own contemplative tempo that stands out so much in the world of modern accelerated vibe. Also, finally, josei adapted. And it's a quiality one. I really-really hope it'll keep being good

So for example when I say OCxCanon I usually mean a ship with Nomi (or another OC). I use selfship to mean specifically Nomi. When I refer to F/Os, I'm talking about relationships Nomi is in (aka me, inside my daydreams). Nomi uses She/Her pronouns, while I, Sini, use Ae/aer, which can help distinguish which "self" I'm talking about. Just maladaptive daydream things lmao. had a ton of fun planning, building, and painting this kit. definitely the most intensive customization i’ve done so far, but i’m very happy with it. as always the master grade hands are incredibly well-engineered and equally finicky. i lost a pinky before i had even finished painting the frame. additionally, the head/backpack assembly is…a little loose at times, and the shield mount point on the backpack arm might as well not be there. but the looks are undeniably good.

i love everything about this kit except that the shoulder construction tends to make the permet panels on the chest pop off when you move the arms

but otherwise? incredible. i love how bandai have incorporated 30 minute missions techniques into their mainline products and i love this model specifically. proportions, new mold painting and sticker printing techniques, all of it. wish it came with a multi stand for all the bit staves, but oh well. really dig it overall.

kit is not painted, but is panel lined, top coated, and accent markered.

What's your favorite ?

Ever since I watched , it has been my absolute number 1. It's a compelling narrative, as you get to understand and see the important values of friendship, family and the construction of a new one in action, yet, at the same time, it captures a lot of the lightness and playfulness from the original visual novel.
While there aren't eye-catching visuals and perfectly choreographed battles, the emotional load and atmosphere is reason enough to give it a watch.

I've been using this account as my primary for about a week now, and I'm think I'm settled on using it for the foreseeable future, so I guess it's time to do another post.

I'm a dad of four kids, and a web developer. I have a college degree in (or ) and had aspirations of being an actor. I kind of fell into web development as a career. It was a hobby back in high school, and I just needed to pay some bills after college, so I ended up doing this.

I always have aspirations to do other things, but for now, I'm pretty happy spending most of my time as a dad and husband.

@Lisuru The only thing I see with a hashtag is at the end. Just typing the # followed by the interest should be all you need to do. For instance, I figured and were good options for including instead of just the words. The same thing would be true of your longer introduction post which would benefit especially from having "Introduction" hashtagged, as it's a tag lots of people visit to find new folks to talk with and follow.

How I got in to :

I got into anime in 1992, after my step-brother brought a VHS of Dominion Tank Police home he rented.

I was so in awe that I started renting everything I could find. I started with dubbed, then went to subbed.

Thanks to my college aged neighbor, in HS I got to attend the UofMD Terrapin Anime Society meetings sometimes, which introduced me to fansubs.

Prince of Tennis was the first sports anime I was obsessed with. I liked a lot of other ones as a child, but this one was different. I loved every character and the matches were intense experiences. I didn't know anything about tennis before, but it was so cool in this show.

I've also watched the National Tournament OVAs before the first show, which makes them extra special for me.

Another important show of my youth. The 6 episodes of this OVA aired over years on MTV in germany. Over and over again. It was the first really horny anime I've seen, and I still remember recording the motorcycle episode on VHS. Man, this VHS worked overtime when I was 14 😅😅

Absolutely amazing anime about a guy doing a lot of odd jobs and women hating him, just to fall in love after he left.

We reached the center of the 3x3 and my favorite OVA of all time. The Sci-Fi-Anime Iczer-1, released from '85 to '87 in three episodes, has everything. Mecha, aliens, body horror and yuri ☺️☺️

The plot is about the school girl Nagisa, who checks all marks of an airhead. On her way to school, she meets the strangely dressed Iczer-1 and is dragged in a bizarre adventure... but her role seems to be bigger than expected.

This is one of the OVAs with especially high value for me personally. I've seen this Anime the first time on TV in germany. The station aired all 13 episodes in one go from around 00:00 till 6:00... and the most amazing thing was that RoLW was aired in OT with Sub. On TV!!

The plot of RoLW used a lot of fantasy tropes, but the execution is so well done that you can easily overlook it.

1.2. Dragon's Heaven

The OVA was released in 1988 and is a project by Makoto Kobayashi. Its visuals are influenced by french comic artist Moebius, and the art is absolutely stunning. This OVA is also packed with interesting bonus material. It has a runtime of 45 minutes, but 5 of them are used to show off a nice model of a mecha and around 15 minutes are a making of at the end.

The plot is sadly a bit flat, but this anime is living to 100% from its art.

1.1. Minna Agechau

The OVA is based on an erotic comedy manga, written from 1882 to 1987 by Hikaru Yuzuki. The OVA was also released in '87.

The story revolves around the student Rokurou, who is once spied on by second Lead Yuno Mamiya while he's masturbating. This somehow leads to them dating, but Rokurou doesn't know that Mamiya is actually the heiress of a multi millionaire. Shenanigans ensue.

Not very erotic, but it's really stupid fun to watch.
