@vsitante I definitely feel like I have more positive interactions on fedi than in other places. Slow but meaningful.

I wish more artists/fandom peeps migrated here instead of bluesky, but it's hard to argue against the lack of discoverability. Full text search doesn't exist for everyone and is quite resource intensive, let alone an algorithm to constantly recommend new posts with the same trending topics.

@navi Agreed with everything. Mastodon does have a version of the algorithm with "trending" but well, it has an equal amount of variety as Bluesky does. (Although at least here I can see a plant post and a shitpost like three times each.)

What's been interesting to see (and funnily petty for me) is seeing people on Bluesky also realize that hey! Turns out (unfortunately) that because most people have been 'trained' to live with an algorithm, that they now prefer places with an algorithm! An algorithm that works like in every other centralized place, that is--because wew boy, it seems that the "Discover" feed only appears to show you certain posts that are absolutely not even geared to any interests. (I'm getting tired of the complaints because you can use tools to mute those, but enough people have complained about almost always getting diaper fetish posts on any given day?!)

But if people don't know that you can substitute that with another feed (the "For You" page, better algo), then what can you expect? So if Bluesky doesn't work out for you like that, then it's a safe assumption to just decide to not use it, to use your brain and use moderation tools or just...give up on SNS lol (or go back to twitter)

(This is something a lot of Masto folk have to understand too tbh, for the reasons you say.)
